"Spirit Week Success!"

Students volunteered over two Saturdays at Midwest Animal Rescue, helping with various tasks and finding out about the rescue and its members.

The Odessa Middle School Honor Society hosted a very successful Spirit Week from March 2nd through March 6th. Students and staff raised over $750 for local charities. The groups chose two local charities to give their funds, hearts, and energy to as a donation.

The Honor Society group hosted two community service volunteer events with local animal rescue Midwest Animal Rescue. Midwest Animal Rescue is an foster based rescue founded by Erin Morse in Holden MO. MARQ saves approximately 400 dogs a year. The students volunteered on March 7th and March 14th at the rescue house. They performed various jobs such as raking leaves, prepping pens, and socializing new animals and puppies. The experience was an opportunity for the student to witness a grassroots non-for-profit and see the work that goes in, as well as the impact that it can have on lives. Students presented Erin and the rescue members with a check for $400 from the Spirit Week funds.

Students also presented a $400 check to the local Odessa Senior Center. Students chose this business as a local charity that they would like to donate to. Students felt that it has an amazing impact on our community, and many students have had family who have utilized the senior center and personally realize it’s impact. It’s goal of providing independent living for the seniors of our community is one the students felt inclined to support.
