OMS DAR Essay Contest Winners

DAR Essay Participants from the OMS class of Mrs. Walsh

Mrs. Walsh, OMS 6th grade teacher, had 18 students participate in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) essay contest. This contest was established to encourage young people to think creatively about our nation’s great history and learn about history in a new light. Each academic year, a unique essay topic is chosen and guidelines are made available. DAR Essay Contest Guidelines

Each student was required to write a 1000 word essay on Ellis Island in the 1800s. The essay had to include a bibliography. Gavin Gross was the first place winner, and his essay will be sent to the National competition.  Sophia Patrick received 2nd place and Kennedy Kleoppel received 3rd.
