Missouri Boys & Girls State Information

Missouri Girls and Boys State was established to give young Missourians a better understanding of our state government.  The program employs the “learn by doing” method of teaching the basic principles of democracy. Those who have participated in the programs generally come away with a sense of pride in our form of government and how it works.   

A summer camp is offered for junior girls and junior boys to learn more about this process. Odessa’s local American Legion Auxiliary, American Legion and Rotary make the selections of students that will be attending.  Committee members generally look at students that have high moral character, good sportsmanship, academic and leadership ability, courage, honesty, cooperativeness, and an interest in government and current events.  Students that are selected must attend the entire session.  

Girls State information is usually available in mid-January and Boys State information is available by the first week of March. If you have any questions about Girls or Boys State please see the OHS Counselors.
